Watching Birds

All the preparation the weeks before the show wore me out.  I now remember why I quit doing shows.  Getting ready for them is exhausting!  Also, I get so psyched before the show there is always a letdown after – emotionally and physically.

I have spent this past week of physical and emotional downtime watching TV, napping, playing on the laptop, staring into space, and watching the birds at the bird feeder.  I haven’t done anything business related.  I haven’t even unpacked from the show.

We watch a few network shows, mainly comedies and football, sometimes baseball.  We have been known to binge on old movies.  I love anything with Cary Grant, Kate Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart. James Stewart, Liz Taylor, and any of the Rat Pack. We binge frequently on Brokenwood and Midsommer Mysteries.

I have been addicted to Spider solitaire for years – a colossal time waster. And I can spend hours browsing Pinterest and watching jewelry making tutorials of techniques I already know how to do.

Staring into space is kind of like meditation but with my eyes open.  Naps – a gift from the gods – are marvelous.  Sometimes I lay on the bed and stare into space – the ultimate respite.  Yes, I am weird.

The bird feeder is strategically placed in the back yard so I can glance up at see the birds while I am working at my bench or playing on the computer.  I enjoy watching them.  We have a decent variety here in Middle Tennessee.  Just like people, they play and fuss with each other.  There are sweet birds and bully birds.   Don’t get me started on the squirrels who steal the seed.

I could carry on doing nothing, but my week of loafing is ready to be over.  I am bored of just filling time. Today I will unpack and store the show stuff.  I might even light the touch.

Take care of yourselves my friends and listen to your body when it says to rest.
